Ok...I had no idea my 365 kit would be so well received! I thank all of you for the love and I really do hope your enjoying your kit! I figured out that most of you LOVE hybrid. I understand that many of you do not do digital or just haven't got around to it yet but well designed hybrid kits are right up your alley! Cool!!!! I will for sure keep that in mind from now on. I've actually thought a lot about digital and hybrid and really want you all to know the basics of how I go about designing my pages and the little things that I do over and over that I love.
I was thinking of another workshop. It would be about all things digital, hybrid and reverse hybrid (reverse hybrid is a technique that I do mostly for publication purposes ) I do know that some topics may be like Whoa! But the workshop will be up forever just like my Journals 3 Ways workshop so you can refer back to it any time you want.
Lastly, I will make all videos open in a new window at a larger size. That way you can see better lol! And I will try to keep the word "um" down a bit Ha hAAAAAAAAA....
So...give me your thoughts. Yay or Nay. I think it would be fabulous!!! Now...for a little tester of sorts. I have a freebie for you. Just a little printout in the form of a PDF. I have had difficulties in the past with PDF's and people not being able to open them up. I think it was because I was trying to make it look like a Sears catalogue or something. WAY to much jazz in it so this time It's going to be simple and to the point. Here is the link below:
I believe you will need Adobe Reader 5 or above to view it. PLEASE email me or comment if it doesn't work. I'm just trying to get a feel of what I am doing wrong.
Kody's pillow broke. I'm not even kidding. That would be cool accept it was the very next day after I got it! And the boys and I are sick so I didn't feel like going to the store. I just jiggy rigged it. Thought I would go into Martha mode and stitch up the gaping hole myself.
hmmmm...not so much. I think this is a hot mess is what I think it is. Oh Lordy...that's ok. It was remade with love ^_^
So yeah, I'm behind on my 365 though. Oh I sure am and and it's Ok. I'm not stressing one bit. I've had enough of that last year lol!!! I got my week 1 done so here is what I did to finish it up.
This is my Resolutions page
My Word of the Year page
My Weekly Reflections page ( I ran out of ink in my pen so I wrote the rest in pencil lol )
For this Word of the Year page I used the Silhouette and my butterfly brush to create a window template. I then backed it with a transparency. It goes in the page through a slit. The whole finished page is in the page protector accept for the front flap of the window and photo turn.
Now on to week two ^_^...
My girl Essense held a pretty cool challenge on her blog: A Photo an Hour. What a neat idea!!! I'm going to do it even though the challenge is over. I know I'll have like 10 of the same photos. My life is so full of spontaneity ya know lol!!! Check out her blog to see what others have done! And congrats E for making he Dirty Scraps team
Be back in a flash,

I, for one, think a workshop would be great!

The download worked perfectly and I think a hybrid class (especially if it included some of your product, hint, hint) would be great!

Most definitely! ^_^

(Also..Hi my buddy Lisa right there above me! hehe) And...you are a hybrid genius there w/your book. I'm a hybrid dummy. LOL!

Karla,
A tutorial on template use would be fabulous! Love your style and artwork - Would be terrific to understand the process you use to come up with your creations and, better yet, how we can customize to make them truly our own :-).
Peace,
Sandy

I'm very intrigued by the hybrid class. Love your 365 kit and bought it as soon as I saw it yesterday. I haven't started yet, but am really inspired by yours - love it!

Bought your kit & love it--question that I have is do you print out your journalling pages in advance on matte photo paper and then journal by hand? I like the look of your pages & think that I might complete more pages if I did it that way. Keep creating & posting!!

Yep, a hybrid workshop would be fabulous! I made a page with the 365 kit already. Yay! Messed it up stamping the date on it :(. Would you consider creating a companion kit to the 365 with Months and numbers(1-31)? Just a thought.
Posted by: khadijah | January 17, 2010 at 10:14 AM
Oh no! I print them out on cardstock! That way I don't use my photopaper up. The only things that get printed on photo paper are my pictures. I design the page first. May erase some parts of the photos to allow for brushes. Example of this would be this page here:
http://karlastudio5.typepad.com/karla/2010/01/365-wicker.html
If you notice on the top of the photo it looks like a triangle wedge was cut out. Then the brush fits right on in there. Well I "erased" the photo with a bigger diameter of that brush, made the brush smaller and stamped the brush. SO...when I printed of my picture it hade that wedge missing and I just cut it out with my craft knife. The stamp (brush) was printed off with the rest of the digital designs exactly how I made it in PS. I know it sounds confusing. If you would like me to explain further you can email me honey ^_^
But in a nutshell...I design how I want my journaling page to look and print it out on cardstock. THEN I journal on it with a pen.

For sure! That's a great idea! And I SO know what you mean about the date at the very end. I've done that with my album too ^_^ But it's ok.
I'm glad you are enjoying the kit! I'd love a link to your page!!! I will get working on your request :)

Karla again you blow me away... I love the look of digital but still like to get my hands dirty. I think for me the concept of digital scares me even though I consider myself to be computer literate I struggle with things like brushes etc.. If I could overcome this I think I would LOVE it.

I totally understand. When I fist got Photoshop I was too scared to play with it. I actually thought I would ruin it for my lack of knowledge. But I said what the heck and started playing around. With that and googling when I couldn't figure out how to do something I wanted; I learned it myself. Once you get it it's the best and honestly a very useful tool for traditional scrappers too. It can enhance projects with just a subtle printout. So for you, you would for sure be hybrid and that is SO much fun. I wish we can chat forever about this but just know that you can so do it! It's not as hard as it looks. It just takes knowing a couple a tricks and the basics + creativity.
I will do a digital/hybrid workshop in the near future. I hope you join in!!!!!
Thanks for the love honey ^_^

Karla, I am really loving your 365 album. How do I use my silhouette to cut out the shapes like you have for your album (love the butterfly window today!)? I got the Silhouette for Christmas but I am still pretty unfamiliar with using it. Do you know of a tutorial that I could look at or lead me through the steps of the process?
Thanks!
Julie

Wow karla, those pages are gorgeous, as always. I love them! Great freebie too! I could open it to see it, but couldn't figure out how to save it. I need to ask my tech man after work tomorrow. LOL. I'm sure it's me doing it wrong!
I hope you had a great weekend!
